It’s almost New Year’s Eve, and 2022 is almost over. Every year around this time, I look back at my favorite photographs from the previous year. These photos stand out to me because of their composition, or because I had a good memory while taking them. In general they are photos that I would like to hang on my wall! So let me to share my best landscape and astrophotography photos of 2022 with you!
The first picture is a composite of star trails above Mount Olympus, Greece’s highest mountain. I took this photo in January, when it was bitterly cold outside. So, after I got the base shot at sunset, I set up my camera to capture the star trails and stayed in my car for a couple of hours!
In my hometown, we get some pretty spectacular sunsets in the winter. This is yet another photo of Mount Olympus with a stunning sunset. It was taken at Thermi’s Dam, a place I like to go when I want to take a short walk in nature.
Lavenders in bloom can make for beautiful photographs. Combine them with a lone tree, a waxing crescent moon, and the beautiful colors of the sunset, and you have a truly stunning photograph!
This photograph was taken in the summer in Halkdiki. This is another place I enjoy visiting because it has a beautiful view of the sea. It’s an ideal spot for watching the sunset!
Let’s continue with some photos of the Milky Way and the Night Sky. Every summer, I take advantage of the opportunity to photograph the Milky Way. I enjoy staying out late at night, usually near the sea, watching the stars and photographing the starry night sky.
Oreokastro Lake is located in Thessaloniki, Greece. This Autumn, I went to this man-made lake early in the morning. The autumn colors were spectacular, the sun was just rising, and there was no wind. All of these elements combined to create an amazing reflection!
I don’t usually take black and white photos, but I think the one below looks great in black and white. It gives this lone tree a minimalist look, making for a simple but effective image.
So those were my personal favorites from 2022! I hope you liked them! They are available as fine art prints if you want to decorate your home or office walls with them. Wish everyone a happy new year!

Great images, Alexios. I particularly liked the sunset over the ocean and the one with the lavender bushes. If I might add a critique, I’m not sure there is enough in the sky of that one to make it a great vertical shot, but it is your best images, not mine! So I apologize in advance! Interesting how keen you have become on night sky photography. You are clearly a master of it!

Thank you very much for your kind words Steve! Any critique and opinion is welcome!
In the vertical shot with the lavenders I really like how the waxing crescent moon shines in the blue sky above the colorful clouds! Of course this is subjective!
I find astrophotography rather fascinating! It requires a lot of effort both while capturing the photo but also while editing it! I find it really fun though!
